Ms. Cox, Mrs. Walker, and Ms. Cooper’s 6th grade students engaged in cross-curricular, hands-on fun this week with a slime activity for Math and ELA!
In Ms. Cox’s math class, students applied ratios from Unit 2 to the real world. Each student created individual equivalent ratios using ratio tables for different slime servings. Then, they followed their recipes to see whose slime came out the best! Perfectly balanced ratios of ingredients were key for stretchy, fluffy slime.
Next, the activity extended into Mrs. Walker’s ELA class’s informational text unit. Students first wrote a sequence paragraph to outline the steps used to make their slime. Once students composed their sequence paragraphs correctly, they customized their slime with colors, textures, beads, and glitter of their choice; to finish out the activity, each student wrote a descriptive paragraph about his/her slime’s unique sensory attributes. Learning is fun at RHMS! #WeAreRHMS
