District Teacher of the Year

At a surprise, afternoon school faculty meeting at McAllister Elementary School, Mrs. Emily Dixon was recognized as the 2018-19 Bryan County School District Teacher of the Year. Dr. Brooksher, Superintendent of Schools presented Mrs. Dixon with flowers to celebrate her achievement.  “Mrs. Dixon is a dynamic, creative, and engaging teacher that strives to meet the needs of all students. She is also a teacher leader with a passion for connecting staff, students, parents, and the community. I am grateful to Mrs. Dixon for her dedication to excellence and success.”

Each year, one teacher is chosen from every school in the system to participate in the State of Georgia Teacher of the Year process. Schools select exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled individuals who inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn. The District Teacher of the Year is then chosen from this field.

Emily Dixon, 5th Grade Teacher at McAllister, is also the Sign Language Club Sponsor. Mrs. Dixon believes the greatest gift she can provide her students is fostering the motivation in them to experience educational success. She fully believes and supports the idea that each student possesses various tools for learning educational content. Furthermore, it is her belief that the best way to engage a student is to have lessons that are grounded in relevance and paired with purposeful activities that have a goal of enhancing students’ knowledge and skills. She does this by creating lessons and experiences that are centralized around her knowledge of what students need and differentiates to create a learning experience available and attainable for all. In the end, she wants her students to leave each day wanting to learn, know, and do more. By keeping the focus on the students, Mrs. Dixon knows that she is providing the pathway for educational success.

Mr. Bivins Miller, Principal at McAllister Elementary School, stated, “While Mrs. Dixon is a master teacher, her ability to develop positive relationships with her students is where her ability to reach students is taken to the next level! Teaching is not just a job for Mrs. Dixon, it’s a passion. Energy, excitement and high expectations accompany each and every lesson! Challenging students while giving them the proper supports to meet the aligned expectations is where she thrives. I feel fortunate to have such a strong education advocate as part of McAllister Elementary School.”
