POWERADE®  Powers Up High School Athletic Programs with Monetary Awards

Bryan County High School — March 1, 2019 — High school athletics continue to play a critical role in the growth of young athletes, yet high school athletic programs across the country continue to suffer deep budget cuts, leaving many students powerless.

For the second year, POWERADE will give students the power to make an impact.  As the sports drink of the Coca-Cola Company, POWERADE understands the importance of sport in the lives of teens. This notion became the catalyst in the development of the “Power Your School’ program.

Student athletes and their supporters submitted videos and essays demonstrating their schools’ needs. Winning schools received monetary prizes ranging from $10,000 to $2,000 to preserve the playing fields that often serve as an extension of the classroom.

“This program is extremely important for POWERADE,” said Julie Siwemuke, senior brand manager, POWERADE. “We want to use our platform to power teens and the things that are important to them. Last year was a fantastic start and this year is going to be better! We are in awe of high school athletes and through the Power Your School program, POWERADE is committed in helping them on their journeys.”

Contest entries were judged based on school need, creativity, and quality of submission.

In Pembroke, GA, Bryan County High School won $10,000 to help provide support to all the athletic programs at BCHS to meet immediate needs.  From track uniforms, to equipment, to cheer camp, ALL BCHS programs benefited from this grant.

“Bryan County High School is very proud of our students and their efforts to create a video to win funds for our athletic program.  We are very grateful to Michael Cohen and Coca Cola for their continued support of BCHS and the many schools in the surrounding area”. Mary Beth Blankenship, Principal

Athletic Director Donny Sikes states, “Powerade has really stepped up and given back to help athletics in small communities such as ours here in Pembroke. We are proud of our students who put this video together, and this money will help all sports as we continue to strive for excellence and success in our athletic programs.”

BCHS will celebrate this event on Friday, March 8 with a presentation at 2:30 PM with the student body.
